Dear Mayor Mamdani, City Council Speaker Menin, Deputy Speaker and Library Chair Williams, Council Finance Chair Lee, and Council Member

I’m writing as a Brooklyn resident and supporter of Brooklyn Public Library to ask you to prioritize increased funding for New York City’s libraries.

Libraries are among the most trusted public institutions in our city. They provide essential services that help New Yorkers of all ages learn, connect, and move forward—from early childhood programs and after-school learning to job assistance, digital access, and welcoming spaces for community.

Every year, millions of people turn to libraries for the free resources they cannot find anywhere else. Yet libraries continue to face rising costs and growing demand while operating with limited resources. Sustained investment is necessary to ensure libraries can keep serving communities across the five boroughs.

I am grateful for the support you’ve expressed for library funding. This year’s budget is an opportunity to uphold the promise by ensuring libraries have the resources they need to keep serving every neighborhood.
