Join retired elementary school educator and urban gardener Leslie Mireille Fiske in hands-on, kid friendly gardening activities suitable for 2^nd through 5^th grade children.  The children will be exploring, observing, planting, harvesting and sampling a variety of herbs, flowers and vegetables through the spring into summer growing season. Activities will take place on the library’s roof-top demonstration garden. 

This program is for children in 2nd-5th grade. Online registration is required.

Repair can be intimidating so get over that hump with the help of Repair Cafe NYC! 

At our events we collectively diagnose and fix broken objects, share skills, and build intergenerational, community-based knowledge. 

What to expect:

Learn to fix your small broken item like:

• lamps
• fans
• ceramics
• textiles
• small furniture piece 

No large appliances, large furniture, bicycles, laptops or cellphones. One item per person.

Come share your skills

You have skills to share! You know how to use a sewing machine or do hands-on textile mending, repair small furniture items or ceramics, or have a basic understanding of electronics repair. You don’t have to be an expert! Let us know you are coming in this form

What will we provide at the event?

• Worktables and chairs
• Basic wood and ceramic repair tools (glues, clamps, power drill)
• Mending and sewing (sewing machine, thread, needles, buttons, scrap fabric) 
• Small electronics repair (wirecutter, small screwdrivers)

You are welcome to bring your own tools with you if you have any, but please make sure you clearly mark them and keep them with you!

Repair Cafe NYC is a volunteer-led growing community of DIY’ers who love fixing things! We’re interested in helping each other gain confidence in the act of repair to prevent our belongings from going to the landfill and thinking critically about where our things come from.

This event is for teens aged 13-19, and requires registration. This hands-on knife skills workshop for teens introduces essential techniques while exploring how cooking connects to environmental justice. Participants will learn how proper knife skills can reduce food waste, make the most of fresh ingredients, and support more sustainable, thoughtful food choices, empowering them to see everyday cooking as a way to care for their communities and the planet.

Erika Mayol is a Brooklyn-based culinary educator and the owner of Chop Cook Cake, a recreational cooking school rooted in creativity, culture, and connection. Inspired by a lively childhood kitchen filled with shared meals and global flavors, Erika brings warmth, energy, and a passion for teaching young people how to cook with confidence and purpose.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.

Greenpoint Library is pleased to open up our Rooftop Demonstration Garden (3rd floor) for conversation with an experienced Garden Educator!

Bring your questions, learn about what's growing, and enjoy the surroundings. 

Garden Educator will be on site from 3-4pm on Fridays, weather permitting.

*Please note the garden will be closed in event of rain, high heat, or other inclement weather. All ages welcome.
