Winter Magic Books

Katrina

Dearest Bookworms,

Happy December!

I debated long and hard about which books to share. Did I want cozy books? Holiday Romances? Books about cookies? And then it hit me- a random assortment of books that contain magical settings where "Winter" is an important element to the story, either as a kingdom or type of magic. So I give you a Winter Magic Booklist!

  1. A fate so cold by Amanda Foody In Alderland, where Summer magicians defend the nation against Winter's brutal reign, Domenic and Ellery become the unprecedented Chosen Two, bonded with the most powerful Summer and first-ever Winter wands, and face a looming cataclysm and the devastating truth that saving their homeland may require one to slay the other.
  2. The iron daughter by Julie Kagawa As war looms between Summer and Winter faeries, Meghan, who is half faery, half human, works to convince others that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and the absent Winter prince have seen.
  3. Wind daughter by Joanna Ruth Meyer To save the North after her father exchanges his power for mortality because of his love for her mother, Sanu embarks on a dangerous quest to reclaim her father's magic, pitting her against the Winter Lord who wants the North Wind's destructive powers for himself
  4. The lion, the witch and the wardrobe by C S Lewis Four English schoolchildren find their way through the back of a wardrobe into the magic land of Narnia and assist Aslan, the golden lion, to triumph over the White Witch, who has cursed the land with eternal winter.
  5. Wings of starlight by Allison Saft It's been centuries since a warm-season fairy in Pixie Hollow has crossed into the Winter Woods, and while most fear the legends of monsters lurking in the frozen lands, Clarion, can't help being intrigued by Winter's stoic beauty. But under the watchful eyes of the current monarch and the court's seasonal ministers, Clarion has little time to dwell on daydreams while the days to her coronation dwindle away. That is, until reports of a monster crossing from Winter into Spring make their way to the palace. Clarion sees defeating this threat as an opportunity to prove that she is worthy of her new role. But instead of finding a monster at the edge of Winter, she finds Milori, a young guardian of the Winter Woods. Together, they form an unlikely bond as they race to save their lands. But as their alliance warms to something more, they will discover there is a reason a warm-season fairy and a winter fairy must not be together. And the cost could be just as deadly as the monsters that prowl the Winter Woods. Discover the origin of the sweeping, star-crossed romance between the queen of Pixie Hollow and the lord of the Winter Woods.

Happy Reading and Stay Warm!

Sincerly,

Your Friendly Neighborhood Librarian
